The second floor rooms of the Callanwolde mansion were the living quarters of the Candler Family. Today they are used to house the Callanwolde Gallery, the Art & Gift Shop, studios for art classes, and the arts center's rental and adminstrative offices.

Studio A
Originally, the second floor consisted of six bedrooms, each with their own fireplace. There were also six bathrooms, a sundeck and a screened-in sleeping porch. The first bedroom to the right as you enter the Petite Hall Gallery is now used for art classes and private music lessons. The room features a large fireplace with decorative mantel and has been renamed Studio A. Entrance to the bathroom is through a heavy wooden sliding pocket door. The all-tile bathroom features a large pedestal sink and smaller toothbrush sink. Click on image for larger view.
Studio B
Studio B was originally the Master Bedroom for Mr. and Mrs. Candler. It features a large bay window that overlooks the terrace and front lawn. It also features a large fireplace and access to a small sundeck. All of the major bathrooms, which were as large as some modern bedrooms, were a show of opulence with large mirrors, fixtures, and a great use of marble. In addition to the usual furnishings, most bathrooms featured a tooth brush bowl, a sitz bath and a toe tester for the shower. Built-in storage was allso integrated into dressing rooms and baths. Today, Studio B is used for art classes and as a small dance studio. Click on image for larger view.

The Art & Gift Shop
Originally a guest bedroom, this room became the master bedorom for Charles Howard Candler in his later years. Now the Callanwolde Art & Gift Shop, the room's bathroom has been converted to accommodate an expansion of the shop. The Art & Gift Shop opened in November 1975 and offers distinctive paintings, prints, pottery and other original art work to the public. The Shop is a source for books on the Candler family and carries handmade baskets, table top items, note cards and Holiday items. The Shop is staffed by members of the Callanwolde Guild and is open Monday through Saturday, from 11:00 AM until 3:30 PM. Click on image for larger view.
Administrative Offices
Off the Petite Hall and down the corridor to the left are three additional rooms that served the Candler family as children's bedrooms and a screened-in porch. Since the house was not air-conditioned, the porch was used as a sleeping porch for the children during hot summer months. The porch has long been fully enclosed and the bedrooms and porch today serve as Administrative staff offices. The Executive Director's Office, Marketing and Development Office and the Registrations and Rental offices are located in this section of the building. The corridor features an interesting gallery of framed historic photos of the house taken during the 1920's when the Candlers still resided at Callanwolde. Click on image for larger view.
