Make-up Policy for Dance Classes

All dance students must make up classes missed during a quarter before the end of that quarter. Children should attend a class of the same age group and with the same instructor should discuss make-up policy with their instructor. Callanwolde is not responsible for classes missed due to student absences.

Parents' Day in Children's Dance Classes

Open classes are held one week during the quarter so that parents may observe the class "in action" and have the opportunity to discuss their child's personal growth and development with the instructor.

What to wear for children's dance classes:

For Creative Movement/Pre-Ballet Classes (ages 4-6):

Girls - pink tights, pink ballet slippers and a pink leotard. Hair must be neat and tied back.

Boys - black tights or sweat pants, solid color t-shirt and black ballet slippers.

For Royal Academy of Dance Classes:

Call Callanwolde, consult instructor or see course catalog

For Modern Dance Classes:

Children should wear comfortable clothes to move in and may dance barefoot or in ballet slippers.

For Jazz classes:

The Callanwolde Jazz Dance Theatre

The Callanwolde Jazz Dance Theatre was founded in the Fall of 2002 under the artistic direction of Jeanne Hangliter. The objective of the Jazz Dance Theatre is to provide jazz dancers from beginning to advanced, ages 7 & up, the opportunity to perform and experience a pre-professional Broadway-style performance during their education at Callanwolde. The training the dancers receive isbased on a classical jazz technique with opportunities to broaden their talents with an audition-based experience that provides a chance to encompass music performance including an atmosphere that expresses dedication and commitment at the level each dancer chooses to participate. The performance is not required as part of the Jazz Program, but is a wonderful instrument to express each dancer's capability and to experience the process of a pre-professional performance. Callanwolde Jazz Dance Theatre provides a more detailed description and schedule during the first weeks of each Fall Quarter for the upcoming year.
