Celebrate the power of storytelling as Callanwolde showcases a unique collection of the South’s best stories and old-time storytelling traditions. A diverse group of dynamic, award-winning storytellers will entertain audiences as everyone enjoys the beautiful ambience of the Callanwolde mansion, courtyard and gardens. Nationally acclaimed storytellers Carmen Deedy, Akbar Imhotep, Marvin Cole (aka Mark Twain), and Cynthia Watts along with early members of the local Southern Order of Storytellers, Scott DePoy, Betty Ann Wylie, Fiona Page, and BJ Abraham will be among the artists spinning their tales during this two-day event.

Learn to appreciate authentic Argentine tango! You will learn about the rhythm and movement of Argentine Tango and how to focus on connecting with the music and your partner. Learn how two bodies can move as one! Dancers of all skill levels are welcome and no partner is necessary. "HEART CONTEMPLATIONS"

The exhibit will open on Friday, February 6, with a reception for the artist from 7 to 9 pm, and run through March 27. Admission is free and the public is invited.
“The heart fears, protects, expands, expounds, lifts, and loves,” says the artist. Elizabeth D’Angelo’s newest body of work, a series of paintings on carved birch, investigates the expanse of the heart and delves into its crevices. “By carving into birch, I symbolically carve into the surface of exteriors, into the psyche, into thought, into what is just beneath the surface and expose the fundamental human need to reconnect with balance and center.”

Dr. Evgeny Rivkin, a professor of piano at the University of Georgia since 1995, was born in Russia and earned his master’s and doctoral degrees at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He has made concerto appearances and presented solo recitals in world-famous halls around the globe and has received major awards in international piano competitions such as the Sixth International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the Bayerishe Rundfunk Competition in Munich. Callanwolde celebrates the art and performance of poetry with readings in the unique setting of the Callanwolde Conservatory. Local poets will read from the anthology "Flowers of Flame: Unheard Voices of Iraq", the first collection of Iraqi poetry since the American invasion of Iraq. Flowers of Flame was collected in the midst of the war by Iraqis living in Baghdad. They give us an Iraqi perspective on the invasion, the fall of Saddam, the sectarian conflict, and the hardships and hopes of the Iraqi people. Join amazing poets Tara Bray and Megan Volpert as Callanwolde celebrates the art and performance of poetry with readings each month in the unique setting of the Callanwolde Conservatory.
Tara Bray is a recipient of a Nevada Individual Artist Fellowship and a Sierra Arts Foundation grant, and her first poetry volume Mistaken for Song won Persea Book's 2008 Lexi Rudnitsky Poetry Prize for American Women Poets. Her poems have appeared in The Southern Review, Shenandoah, Third Coast and elsewhere. She grew up in Georgia and now lives in Michigan.
Megan A. Volpert,
a performance poet from Chicago who has settled in Atlanta, is Co-Director of the Atlanta Queer Literary Festival and a Poetry Atlanta board member. Her poetry has been published in two full-length books, the desense of nonfense and face blindness, as well as in Columbia Poetry Review, Exquisite Corpse, MiPOesias and other journals.

Their disappearance has left the earth in a post-apocalyptic state, where organic matter left unchecked has morphed with the detritus left behind. The viewer is escorted through massive stitched comic book pages, into fantastic sculptural gardens where trash creatures have created a new world order...without us.

She will be singing classical and contemporary favorites accompanied on the keyboard by Gene Ellis and joined by vocalist Jake Barneman for several duets. Harrison combines character studies and tales of travel with his bluesy, folk-soul music. His new CD, Reach for the Moon, is based on his theatrical performance, which premiered at 7 Stages last year. Join two amazing poets Ann Lynn (l) and Lynn Pedersen (r)as Callanwolde celebrates the art and performance of poetry with readings each month in the unique setting of the Callanwolde Conservatory.
Ann Lynn's article about her poetry-writing workshops for female veterans appeared in the May/June Poets & Writers Magazine. Her poetry has been published in Poetry East, Many Mountains Moving, The Christian Science Monitor and elsewhere, and Finishing Line Press released her chapbook In the Butterfly House in 2009. She was featured at the New Trier Literary Festival in Illinois, and was a Southern Women Writers Conference Emerging Writers Contest finalist.
Lynn Pedersen, a resident of Atlanta, is a graduate of the Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Writing Program. Her chapbook Theories of Rain was published by Main Street Rag in 2009 as part of the Editor’s Choice Chapbook Series. Her poems, essays, and reviews have appeared in New England Review, Poet Lore, Southern Poetry Review, Palo Alto Review, Comstock Review, Chattahoochee Review and Ecotone.

MEMORIAL POETRY READING FOR TURNER CASSITY
A poetry reading will be held in memory of Turner Cassity, poet and a co-founder of the Callanwolde Poetry Reading Series, to include Cassity's poems and other poems for the occasion. The public is invited to participate in the reading. The reading will be held in the Callanwolde Conservatory.
Award-winning formal poet, playwright, and short-story writer Turner Cassity passed away at age 80 on July 26, 2009. In the words of former NEA Chairman Dana Gioia, Cassity is perhaps “the most brilliantly eccentric poet in America.” Born in Jackson, Mississippi, he published eleven collections of poetry, most recently Devils & Islands (Ohio University Press, 2007). His poems appeared in numerous publications including Chicago Review, The Formalist, Shenandoah, Yale Review and POETRY Magazine. In 1973 Cassity along with poet Michael Mott co-founded the Callanwolde Poetry Reading Series. He retired in 1991 as a catalog librarian at the Woodruff Library, Emory University. Cassity received the Levinson Prize for Poetry, the Ingram Merrill Foundation Award, and a National Endowment for the Arts grant.

Jane Robbins Kerr is a writer, a painter, a storyteller and now tells her stories with her camera. She has traveled the world photographing people and places and has spent a lot of time photographing the landscape of northern New Mexico. Her poems have been published in Prairie Schooner, Southern Humanities Review, Cortland Review and elsewhere. She is the Graduate Communications Coordinator and Special Advisor to the Writing and Communication Program at Georgia Tech.
Robert E. Wood teaches in the School of Literature, Communication, and Culture at Georgia Tech. His poetry has appeared recently in Quiddity, Quercus Review, Blue Fifth Review, Ouroboros and Umbrella. His chapbook, Gorizia Notebook, was published this year by Finishing Line Press.
