Opening Reception: Friday, February 17, 2006, 7-9 PM

Bridget Conn is a photographer and mixed media/installation artist. Her work is fueled by an interest in ritual, inheritance, and familial traditions. She often makes use of organic materials to talk about the intersection of science and spirituality. Common elements in her work include references to birds, and use of cooking materials such as rice and flour. She is curious about the transformation of that which is traditionally deemed as "women's work" into powerful, esoteric knowledge.

These one-frame tragicomedies capture a moment in the inner world of characters who are valiantly trying to make their way through the obstacles of thier lives. The artist's goal in these minimalist works is to evoke in the viewer a composite of emotions and thoughts about the issues facing each of us as we try to live our best lives. The intent is for the image and text to be full and equal partners in this task. The stage for these vignettes is unprimed canvas. Each story is sewn using simple black thread.

This exhibit showcases Jordan's recent oil paintings, a series of hands offering simple natural objects. "These works are meant to be visual offerings which reflect upon perception through the heart instead of the mind," says the artist. "My paintings are meant to give voice to the feminine aspect of all things, in subtle gestures of giving rather than taking, serving rather than demanding, and reverence rather than entitlement."

"THE LAST HARVEST: TRUCK FARMERS IN THE DEEP SOUTH"
An Exhibit of Photographs by
Perry Dilbeck
Exhibition Dates: September 15 through October 27, 2006
Opening Reception: Friday, September 15, 2006, 7-9 PM
The opening reception is free and the public is invited.
This exhibit is in conjunction with the annual city-wide event, "Atlanta Celebrates Photography"
"The Last Harvest affectionately documents the fading lifestyle of the southern truck farmer whose dwindling acreage is slowly being consumed by suburbia," says the photographer. "Left with fewer than forty acres of land, most truck farmers grow food for their families and sell the surplus at local markets, along the roadside or from backyard stands." Both intimate and reverential, Dilbeck's images are photographed in black and white using a simple Holga plastic camera. In choosing specific farmers to photograph, Dilbeck says he concentrated on those farmers whose land and homestead have been passed down through many generations and whose faces showed signs of living vigorous, yet interesting life.
